Analyze your DNA the Mac way: One of the most requested features you wanted to see in EnzymeX was the ability to load your DNA of interest and analyze where exactly the different enzymes would cut. Sure there are other programs that can do this, but why do they have to look like coming straight from the 1980's or from another platform? Now the long wait is over and we have finally created a DNA sequence editor that brings all those features you can expect to come with a true MacOSX program.

You can load a wide variety of sequence files from disk thanks to the BioCocoa underpinnings, or directly fetch a record from NCBI's Entrez Database. EnzymeX will then present you with a revolutionary new way of browsing through all your enzymes and shows you where they cut. You can even drag up to four of them into a virtual reaction mix and the program shows you immediately what fragments will be produced!; But that's not all, besides the virtual digest we have added a number of other ways to look at your DNA construct. Under the translation tab you are presented with an overview of the open reading frames within your construct. Double-click one of them and you will see the translated protein. The next tab gives you a list of all enzymes that cut or not cut your sequence. And finally you can generate a dynamic restriction map of your construct. To cut or not to cut - No longer the question!

How did they do that?: We went through all those product guides and searched all of the web just to find every little piece of data to make our database as complete as possible. Most if not all of the information comes directly from the manufacturers and should be correct (we hope). Of course this might not always be the case and we therefore encourage you to report all mistakes you might find.

What about my files?: EnzymeX supports the following DNA sequence file formats: Clustal, DNA Strider, EMBL, Fasta, GCG-MSF, GCK (Gene Construction Kit), GDE, Hennig86, NCBI, NEXUS, NONA, PDB, Phylip, PIR, Plain/Raw, Swiss-Prot, TNT
Another sequence format?: Not really. The files EnzymeX creates look like normal files, but right-click and open their contents and you will see that they consist of a simple FASTA file and a file in which EnzymeX stores its preferences. Send a file to someone who doesn't have EnzymeX or to a Windows user and they will simply see a folder with a FASTA file. No problem! If you have any questions about the exDNA file "format", don't hesitate to contact us.
Spotlight on: EnzymeX 3.1 now takes full advantage of Spotlight. EnzymeX files now popup in the spotlight window, but it goes further than that. We have also added a revolutionary new spotlight-based filebrowser, which shows you all the EnzymeX files on your harddisk, irrespective where you saved them. Of course you will need MacOSX 10.4 Tiger to make use of all these new goodies, but luckily EnzymeX will run fine without them on your Panther machine.
